Folk
en fete, the first meetings of the popular cultures, take place from the 9th
to the 11th of July 1999 in the « Parc de la commanderie » and
in the « Centre Integre ».

throughout this weekend, will set out on a passionate way, the growing infatuation for folk song. Thanks to the Municipal
Office of Culture, Arts and Leisure Activities (OMCAL)
and the Association of Arts and Popular Tradition'Sundgauvia, the first
meeting of the popular cultures takes place on Friday 9th,
Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th of July in the « Parc de
la Commanderie » and in the « Centre Integre ». « Folk en Fete is a project
born after 5 years of gestation ». We wanted the first
meeting of this kind in the Haut-Rhin was organized
at the beginning of the summer, because as a rule very few festivals take
place in July », underlines the president of the Sundgauvia.
During
3 days, groups from Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Czech Republic and France invite you to discover different facets of the
European popular culture. As guest of honour, the group Vonicka (Czech Republic)
start of the festivities by a musical concert and
traditional songs of Northern Moravia on Friday at 8:45 pm, in the lecture
hall of the « Centre Integre ». On Saturday, the
Portuguese cultural and traditional group from Mulhouse
and the group Gioia from San Vito al Tagliamento (Italy) propose animations from 3 pm to 4:30 pm in the « Cour de la Commanderie
» and from 4: pm to 5:30 pm, on the
marketplace. From 8:30 pm, in the « Parc de la Commanderie »,
a great international show of popular culture
takes place with the
groups « Terno Sinto » (gypsy music), Gioia, Vonicka,
Sundgauvia and the « A coeur Joie » choir, with notably the « dance of
witches ». On Sunday from 2:30 pm, several groups invite
visitors to discover carft specialities of their country. In the « Parc de la Commanderie », a
continous play is proposed from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm.
The group « Au gre des vents »livens up folk dancing from 2:45 pm to 6:00 pm,
in the « Cour de la Commanderie». And « Place de la
Jumenterie », the hungarian group Muveloddesi
Es Konyvtor, Vonicka, Burgdeifala d'lllfurth and the Portuguese group planed dance animations from 3:00 pm to 5:15 pm and will
introduce the pulblic to different old
dances. So, do not hesitate and join in the dance-
the
second edition of « Folk en Fete », the festival of international folklore,
will take place from the 11th to the 15th of July 2001 in
Rixheim. The guests are: Awatinas, a group from the
Bolivian Andes, Bucim with its 35 dancers and musicians from Macedonia, and Janosik a professional military group from Slovak
Republic. The groups will present at the same moment
their folklore but also their crafts. It's one fo the novelties of « Folk en
fete », coproduction (budget: 30 489,80 euros) of the city
of Rixheim, OMCAL and Sundgauvia. Stands will
allow every nationalities invited to present the traditional or typical
objects of their country. « The association « Artisans du monde
» will also be present on the site », clarifies
Veronique RIGO, president of the OMCAL. Other innovation: the festival will
begin this year with a preview. That of the exhibition of
the traditional costumes of Higher-Alsace in 18th and
19th centuries, presented until July 17th in the « salle des machines » of
the wallpaper museum, henceforth partner of the
festival.
