About
Sharing
The least expensive way to
ship many pieces of furniture is to fill your own container.
However, if you only want to purchase a few antiques, and don't
want to incur huge shipping fees, join together with other
dealers and ask me to add you to the "Wish
List".
I will search specifically for
you and pick up
your pieces. You must buy exclusively from me. You will get an 18 %
discount on the official price of each item.
Timing:
Because I will be consolidating many small orders, it may take
some weeks/months to fill a container. So, be prepared to wait a
little longer than usual for your pieces.
Interim
storage: I store all items in my warehouse, until they
are ready to be shipped.
Wrapping: I
deal with the safe wrapping of your pieces and will mark your
pieces with your name. However, when you
unload, be aware that each piece is fragile (even the
light ones). Each piece of marble, glass or mirrors, is wrapped
even more carefully, and "Fragile" is written on the
package. A fee of 900€ is required to cover wrapping
material & loading labor.
Scheduling: I
set up loading and departure dates. I will supply all
dealers, associated with this container mailing addresses, so that
they can communicate and make arrangements
together.
Shipping: I
choose the transporter. The container is loaded in front of my warehouse, travels by barge over the Rhine to Belgium's harbor, then is shipped to the closest harbor of your location in
US and after having gone through US Customs, is trucked directly to your shop.
French Customs: I
deal with all French regulations.
Hosting: The
dealer with
the largest order will become the Host dealer. He will deal with the
US
broker to clear the container through Customs. He will deal with
the safe unloading of the pieces, contact the Associate Dealers
about the arrival of their pieces. Hosts and Associate Dealers
should make storage and pick-up arrangements.
US Storage &
Unloading: Hosts usually do not have storage space for your
pieces. I recommend that Associate Dealers arrive at the Host's
site the day the container is delivered, help unload and take their
pieces with them. If unloading help is required, I recommend
that the Host and all Associate Dealers split the cost.
US Customs: Your
Broker will determine and pay US Customs and
Terminal fees.
Insurance: Insurance
pricing is based on the value of the total purchase. Insurance never covers each piece - it can - but
this would require a formal appraisal, by a certified French expert
- and this is very expensive. So the insurance covers damage
or loss to the whole container - this has never happened to me,
but insurance is required. If you discover a problem on a
fragile piece when unloading the container, I will pay for the
damage. I am responsible until the container arrives at your
shop.
Formula for
Splitting Costs: The formula should
be based on volume. I keep track of the volume of each
packed piece to then calculate the volume share of each Dealer's
order. However, I won't be able to give you the exact volume
until loading day. If the container is not full, the empty
space will be added equally to the used space of each dealer.
